New Year's Resolutions

With the new year upon us, I have joined with many of the people in America to start fresh and make some resolutions for the new year. While some of them are feasible (like not drinking pop for the year) and easy to measure and know if they are actually being fulfilled, I seem to have chosen another resolution that may be more difficult to define, achieve, and complete throughout the year...but I figure it's worth a try.

This resolution is to have a more positive attitude about Texas. This blog may become a lot less interesting because of that very decision, but overall I think my life for the next year and a half may be a little more pleasant if I start looking at things with the cup half full instead of half empty.

So, I have been getting some interesting facts about Texas that may turn my attitude around.(because I think it will probably take me a full year to get to having a positive attitude about this place) First of all, there are armadillos here. Interesting animals (I'm pretty sure we can call them that) They can jump, they have armor and claws, and yet people seem to associate them with possums. Fascinating.

Secondly, besides the armadillos, the state tree is the pecan tree...and don't we all love pecan pie. That is two points for Texas...that's at least a start!

So, I have been feeling as though I have been on the rise in my new resolution. That was until this afternoon. I am sitting in a coffee shop with a good friend Leslie, discussing life and classes, when she stops in mid sentence, her eyes become the size of quarters as she stares intensely at the wall behind me in complete fear. I do not scream or pass out (aren't you all proud of that?) but slowly move off the stool and turn around slowly. There on the wall is the BIGGEST cockroach I have ever seen in my life. It is red, it is big, it has lots of antennae-looking parts, and it is crawling seriously too close to my head. We chose to exit at this time and sit outside. Texas lost about 10 points for that move...cockroaches are disgusting...and I was even informed they can live for 2 weeks without a head. Not so fascinating!

I'll keep working on the resolution...but it isn't looking too good today.

Missy, You're awesome! I support you in your quest...although, I have a hard time thinking positively about Texas too. I'll try to be more positive so I don't bring you down :)* Oh, and I think Texas actually loses about 50 points for the cockroaches. They are one of the things that I hate the most here! They show up out of no where usually close to where you're sitting...it's just not okay.

Love ya! ;)

To help you in your resolution, I'd like to list all the things I like about Texas:

1. Big Bend National Park
2. Dairy Queen... the Texas stop sign

I hope this helps!

you know, you don't necessarily have to be positive per say in your opinion of Texas as a whole... as long as you can appreciate the differences or make the most out of the things about Texas you dislike. not that i'm trying to sway you for your resolution because it's a good one. but say for instance, the cockroaches... Texas should lose a million+ points for that because seriously, cockroaches? disgusting; however, they always make good stories. =)

Hey, it snowed today and it made me think of you... so I thought I would send you a quick hello... and to see how all was going.

Good luck with the new semester, and with your resolutions!

Take care-
