Polka....the dance not the dot!

I had a most interesting experience this past Friday. Josh and I spent some time visiting the "culture" that is downtown Waco. It was seriously a fun time...but definitely a cultural experience. We made our way down by the river for a free concert (which they do throughout the summer). The band playing was called Brave Combo and I suppose the name suited the band well. I have never really experienced rock and polka at the same time, and I guess people might say that is a brave combo...but it seemed to work for them.

We watched for a little while but jumped in for a little swing dancing and a more upbeat version of, I am sorry to admit, the chicken dance...yes, the chicken dance. (Who knew that was classic polka) They also had some fun renditions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", the hokey-pokey, and several other songs that people seemed to know and sing along with, but we seemed to just laugh.

The quote of the evening had to go to one of the band members who yelled out (with an appropriate pause) "Hey, we aren't dead...

So let's POLKA!"

Not really sure that I will ever hear that again. I am also unsure of whether or not Texas gains points or loses them for that one!

I can't believe no one has commented on this entry... what a strange little world we live in down here.
