i heart Katie Hughes

Katie Hughes is one of my most favorite people in the whole world. For those of you who know her, you just automatically understand why I say that. If you don't know her, I guess the best way to explain her is that she is unassuming. She is who she is and is okay with it, she is always thinking of other people, she is great at everything she does but has no idea she is great at everything she does. In fact, I'm sure she will be most upset that I am writing all these things about her. But what can I say, she is fantastic.

This may seem a bit random, so I'll explain as to why I am feeling this way today. I got a package from Katie today in the mail. That is just an exciting event no matter what. I love getting mail. However, Katie sent me the perfect package. Seriously, I think she must have been reading my mind the past few days. Not only did she include a new Fresh Ink card (i also heart fresh ink cards), but she included two CD's which have been most fantastic. One of the CD's is called Movie themes and the other TV themes. Of course when you send something like that you have to make it into a game...And Katie naturally did that. I got a sheet of paper with post-it notes folded over with numbers for each song and when you unfold the little paper it says what movie the song was from...So fun! (Plus she built in a system to prevent cheaters like me...So smart!)

I know what you are thinking, I am really making a bigger deal out of this than maybe I should...So let me explain a bit further. I love music. I think that music is one of the languages God uses to speak to me. Music can bring tears to my eyes for reasons I don't understand, it helps me to explain emotions I can't articulate, and there are certain songs out there that have become a part of my life because they explain situations, feelings, emotions in a way that nothing else can. They seem to capture a complete moment, almost as though there is a soundtrack for my life.

I think that is why I love soundtracks so much. A movie would not be the same if it didn't have the music playing in the background, and as I was listening to my new CD and trying to guess what movie it was from, it was amazing the emotions it stirred up as I remembered the scene with Rudy playing for Notre Dame, the little dance that the guy does on Life is Beautiful, I could see the scenery from Dances with Wolves, and could remember the fights in Gladiator. And just like those songs, there are certain songs that I hear that take me directly to a specific place and time in my life. They become part of my soundtrack.

So, anyway, music is one of the great things in this world that i heart. I say that meaning it is something that stirs me. It is something that gets me so excited that I can't sleep at night. It is something that I can't help but smile about when I think or talk about it. It is something I'm passionate about.

I thought I'd end my blog today by making a list of things that i heart. And I recommend that you do it too. I know it sounds really cheesy, but it reminded me of the great things in my life, it reminded me of the things I'm passionate about, it reminded me why I am doing what I am doing. So, make a list (10 is always a good place to start when making any list). Send it to me, I'd love to hear about it, write it in my comments...I'm sure it would make others happy to know some of the positive things in life. But what do I know? These are all just my random thoughts anyway!

Things i heart: (in no particular order)
1. i heart music- I'm pretty sure I've already said enough about that
2. i heart my family- I am pretty lucky. Not only do I have support
and love from my parents and siblings (and Buffalo too) but we laugh a lot. I
don't know many families who pretend to be in a band together just to make cool
family photos. Not bad, I say!

3. i heart fresh ink cards- If you've never read the square cards made by hallmark,
I suggest you make a special trip to the store just to get a taste. If I am ever
having a bad day, I go and read the fresh ink cards just cause I know they'll
make me laugh!

4. i heart the sky- Amazing, seriously. And one of the things I really do appreciate about Texas. They have amazing sunsets here...different than a sunset behind the Rockies or
along the Oregon coast, but beautiful still!

5. i heart Jesus- I know that sounds really cheesy, and I hope that I
don't lose some of you at this point. I don't love the idea of Jesus, I really
do love the person of Jesus. The one who hangs out with people who are not
loved, the one who shows compassion on the people who need it the most, the one
who offers grace before judgment, the one who genuinely likes me.

6. i heart my new friends from Baylor- I've met some pretty sweet people here so far. More specifically, Karin, who I work with and who shares my love for the northwest and George Fox, Leslie, my Oklahoma friend who shares my sense of humor and laughs through all our classes together, and Amy, my Californian friend who is just hip.
7. i heart the ocean- to quote a song on that- "there's something, about the ocean, that makes me rise up in praise."
8. i heart the northwest- I think you can read my last entry to get a taste of why I say that.
9 .i heart George Fox University and all my friends from there- The more time I spend here, the more I realize how great of an experience I had for my undergrad. It also reminds me why I am here studying, because I love college students, and I love the university. Plus, I managed to live at Hancock Street house with an incredible group of girls (long live spidey-tighties)
10. i heart the snow- sigh for living in Texas

Of course I could make a list of 100 more...Seriously though...You should try it! Tell me! I want to know what makes you smile!

MISSY D! Yes! Texas! Gorgeous! It's so nice to read what you're up to. Very good idea with the blog thing. Magnificent.

What do I heart... hmmmm.... other than using lots of exclamation points... hmmm.... !!!!!!....

1)I heart when I listen to my car stereo so loud that it makes my ears ring for about five minutes when I'm done.

2)I heart Thursdays! The new Westword comes out and I eat a Chipotle and then there is usually a new Survivor on at 7 and a decent college football game on ESPN. And 80's night at the Hi-dive is on Wednesday nights, but it doesn't get going until Midnight, so technically that's Thursday too. Fantastic day. In fact, I've always loved Thursdays, dating back to the time when new episodes of The Simpson's aired on Thursdays. True story.

3)I heart my MP3 player. There is nothing better than having thousands of songs on random. Going from Beenie Man to Def Leppard to Ozomatli to Neil Diamond to Sublime... it is zany!

4)I heart my job. I have cool co-workers, a comfy chair, most of the people I deal with are nice and I get to mess around on the internet all day. It will be a sad day when the I leave the credit union.

5)I heart Terrell Owens. I know most people hate him and think he is a pompous a-hole, but the guy is single-handedly saving my fantasy football season. Plus, it's fun to yell "Throw it to T.O.!" at the tv screen.

6)I heart my grandma. We were at a party that got broken up by the police. Who else can say that about their grandma?

7)I heart every British person I have ever met. For serious. I have yet to have a bad experience with a Brit. They're just so jolly. And I'm not sure what "affable" means, but I think British people are affable.

8)I heart the moon. It's really cool to look at especially when it's near the horizon and all big and stuff. But here's the real reason: For centuries the moon has been a gentle giant. A silent ally, if you will. But what would happen if the moon started to feel neglected, ignored or taken advantage of? What if the moon decided to dive bomb straight into the earth? I'm guessing that wouldn't be very pretty. Just my 2 cents.

9)I heart blogs! There is yours and there is my buddy's who is a cop. (coloradofiveoh.blogspot.com) There is this funny one (www.waiterrant.net) there is mark cuban's (www.blogmaverick.com) and best of all, there is www.icerocket.com where you can search everyone else's blogs. Invaluable! This is what I do at work all day.

10)And lastly, but certainly not leastly, I heart CSU football games! Hoooray! The home opener was last Saturday and CSU won! YES!!

Look how happy we were:

(I would just post the picture but blogger doesn’t let you do that in comments)

Missy, Sonny Lubick wants you to go back to CSU:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y113/PeteKalik/superduper.jpg

I know Baylor is probably fun, but I dont' want you to forget your CSU roots.

Repeat after me if you know it (and I'm sure you do): "I'm proud to be a CSU Ram, I said I'm proud to be a CSU Ram" (repeat x50)

Anywho here's a quick story about why I don't like girls from that night: We go to the Sportscaster after the game to celebrate CSU's first victory of the season like the fine young gentlemen we are.

There is this group of girls there who stood near us at the game. I go to talk to one of them and she says, "You sat right next to us at the game didn't you? You guys were so funny!" (Swish!)

So we have a convo, turns out her name is Marda. My heart flutters because I have a soft spot for girls with "unique" names.

We talk for like an hour straight. She is at CSU for grad school after getting a degree at Ohio State. She's never been outside of Columbus so we decide that I will show her around town. (Swish!)

We agree that we should sit by eachother for the Air Force game on Thursday night so we'd try to sit where we were the first game. But in case we couldn't find each other on Thursday (I heart Thursday!) we exchanged phone numbers. (swish!)

So we're talking about life, love, fantasy football, etc. and I ask, "So why did you decide to come to CSU anyway? That's kind of a random choice."

And you won't believe what she says.

She looks me straight in the eye and says...

what for it...

she says, "Because my boyfriend lives in Denver."

Your what?!?!?! Your boyfriend?!?!

What a horrible and devistating blow.

I couldn't believe it. I was reeling. I just got sucker punched right on the chin.

I would have felt bad for myself but then a couple seconds later in a moment of unadulterated comic genius, my buddy Joe gets us kicked out of the bar because he decides to do this:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y113/PeteKalik/joes.jpg

The man needed some Sprite and he needed it now!

Well, that concludes the longest comment of all time.

Missy freakin' Davis...unbelievable
its been a long time but Randy linked you to his blog so I checked it out and here are some of the things that I heart. It would be great to see you if you are going to be in Denver around New Years.

1. I heart my wife. Seriously best friend, diamond in the rough, cool and hot at the same time, great mom.

2. I heart how my son little Jakey is always waiting with his face pressed against the screen door when I get home.

3. I heart all my memories of the LMRC.

4. I heart my memories of Fletch.

5. I truly heart music. (I feel ya on this) On bad days in college I used to light some candles and listen to the saddest songs I had. (Clapton unplugged was a favorite for those times, as well as some Jennifer Knapp) and the there was all the other times that had there accompanying song. In my opinion there is a song for everything.

6. I heart camping and backpacking, especially when Randy is involved. Chris Simpson is a huge plus.

7. I heart how my friends all call me with relationship issues. It's a niche role I will always love to fill.

8. I heart how God has chosen to let me fall flat on my face many times in order to learn His ways. (DC Talk "Hardway")

9. I heart the crisp feeling of the air in Fall.

10. I heart the freedom that comes with flying a helicopter. I have to be able to fly in heaven because I have dreamed about it since I was a kid, and flying a helicopter is just a glimpse into the freedom of Heaven.

Hi Missy,
I noticed that you "heart" music. I just received your great grandpa
Davis (my grandpa's) "worldly goods." There were about 15 pieces of sheet music, including harmonica and mandolin music and 2 cribbage boards......that music thing is in your genes.
Love,
Aunt Dawn
